A free-agent profile for former All-Star goaltender Devan Dubnyk Dubnyk could find a spot where he can act as a No. 3 and, if need be or if he shows he is capable, can take over a backup role. Again, it isn’t the most valuable label, but it could benefit a number of teams. At the end of the day, for those clubs that decide they need another goalie this late in the offseason or in-season but don’t want to make a trade, Dubnyk is the best option.Stats2020-21: 22 GP, 6-11-2 (.368), .895 SV%, 3.20 GAA, .444 QS%, 1 SOCareer: 542 GP, 253-206-54 (.546), .914 SV%, 2.61 GAA, .

Alex Stalock is not expected to play this season because of a heart condition , Oilers general manager Ken Holland said. The goalie , who was claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Wild on March 1, has not played in the NHL since the 2019-20 season . " Alex Stalock had COVID before the 56-game season and missed part of it," Holland Stalock is 61-49-18 with nine shutouts in 151 regular- season NHL games (123 starts) with the Wild and San Jose Sharks. Defenseman Duncan Keith is in quarantine and will not be at camp until Oct. 1 after receiving his second vaccination for COVID-19, Holland said.

What goalie issues? The Edmonton Oilers are going to war this season with a 39-year-old starter and a 33-year-old backup, a pair. If one of them gets injured, the bullpen is inhabited by one Alex Stalock , who is 34 and hasn’t played a game since the pandemic struck. In the interim, Stalock has battled a Covid-induced heart condition called myocarditis. So you’ll understand why Oilers GM Ken Holland has been knee-deep in the goalie market through the past two off- seasons , missing out on UFA Jacob Markstrom, unable to secure Darcy Kuemper, and generally finding it impossible to shore

Stalock, who contracted COVID-19 prior to the shortened 2021 campaign, has seen multiple cardiologists and is currently seeking additional medical opinions, according to Oilers general manager Ken Holland.

Holland spoke to the media on the opening day of Oilers training camp on Wednesday, and said that this particular condition was possibly detected by doctors at the end of last season when Stalock returned home for additional testing following the team's year-end physicals.

Rangers reportedly begin extension talks with star center Mika Zibanejad

Rangers reportedly begin extension talks with star center Mika Zibanejad Zibanejad has seen his offensive production increase sharply over the past three seasons.  He notched 74 points in 82 games in 2018-19, then managed to beat that total by one in 25 fewer games in 2019-20.  While his output dipped last season, he still managed to put up 50 points in 56 contests.  While it took him a while to get there, Zibanejad has produced like a legitimate No. 1 center over the past three years. Accordingly, Brooks pegs his asking price of being upward of $10M per season on a long-term pact of either seven or eight years.

Edmonton Oilers coach Dave Tippett wouldn’t commit to goalie Alex Stalock getting a game anytime soon because he likes the Mike Smith-Mikko Koskinen tag-team, but they needed to put last year’s Minnesota Wild playoff starter on their 23-man roster rather than the taxi-squad.

After contracting the coronavirus last November, Stalock revealed to The Athletic that he was subsequently diagnosed with myocarditis — an inflammation of the heart muscle, which can lead to cardiac arrest. He was reportedly told by doctors to rest for six weeks before visiting a specialist in Boston who gave the netminder the all-clear to begin working out and skating again.

Stalock spent time on Edmonton's taxi squad after the team claimed him off waivers from Minnesota in March but, when all was said and done, Stalock didn't suit up for any games last season with either the Oilers or Wild.

The 34-year-old has spent time with the Sharks, Leafs, Wild and Oilers organizations, amassing a 61-49-18 record, 2.61 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 151 career NHL games.

While Sharks center Tomas Hertl is a highly-speculated candidate to be traded this season, San Jose GM Doug Wilson has other plans.  Speaking with reporters including Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, Wilson indicated that extension talks are well underway: © Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports I’ve had several conversations with his agent.
