Sports Sustainability: Brentford also wears jerseys next season
Sabrina Maddeaux: Team Canada's 2022 jerseys are hardly cheap or tacky — they're almost perfect
Unveiling new Team Canada hockey uniforms is always a risky endeavour –– even more so when the public is already frothing at the mouth on account of an ongoing global pandemic. All that rage needs an outlet; something to attack with the deranged enthusiasm of Jack Torrance wielding a fire axe. Today, Hockey Canada played the role of Wendy Torrance, taking the brunt of Canadians’ collective need for catharsis after they revealed a trio of jerseys for the upcoming Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. The reaction from some circles was swift and unforgiving.
Premier League promoter FC Brentford will wear its current home jerseys also in the next football season and do not present a new shirt as usual for the coming season.
The football club from the London West wants to make a contribution to sustainability and according to own information also takes into account the wishes of the Brentford followers.
"fans have told us that they would prefer a jersey for two seasons because they saves money," said Clubboss Jon Varney. "We also believe that football has to be affordable for our fans and are aware that football needs to be more focused on sustainability." One hopes that it was "a step in the right direction" to help the environment a little.
Last summer, Brentford had made the return to the football house after 74 years. According to Varney, this offers new opportunities because the club as a premier league member deserves much more than with jerseys as a premier league member through televisions and sponsorship. Varney: "That's why the perfect time for us is now to try something new without it affecting our sales."
