Jack Todd: Jordan Harris has shown his smarts from the outset

Jack Todd: Jordan Harris has shown his smarts from the outset It started with a couple of Canadiens’ first-round picks who had to share a brain to go out on the town for an evening. That was a decade ago, give or take, but everything that has happened since has strengthened our conviction that the most basic tenet in building a sports franchise should be this: Brains matter. It’s why I would have taken Julien BriseBois over Marc Bergevin way back when. Not because Bergevin is stupid (he isn’t, despite his detractors) but because BriseBois is just so doggone smart.

About Last Night: Sens' Stützle a thorn in Montreal's side

About Last Night: Sens' Stützle a thorn in Montreal's side The Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators are at different stages of their respective rebuilds, but the seeds of a future rivalry already appeared planted in a freewheeling 6-3 Sens win over the Habs on Tuesday. Based on the boos raining down from the Bell Centre faithful, Tim Stützle proved he’s well on his way to becoming one of the league’s best villains. He scored a goal, but most important drew two penalties that turned the tide: one on a Nick Suzuki knee where the Sens subsequently scored, then again on a delayed call where the road team extended their lead to two.

BJK Cup: Raducanu levels for Britain, Swiatek's Poland ahead .
LONDON (AP) — U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu won on her Billie Jean King Cup debut to leave Britain level with the Czech Republic in Prague on Friday. Raducanu's swift rise was evident before she beat Tereza Martincova 7-5, 7-5 in what was her first match for Britain and her first professional match on clay. Her third win of the year came with added pressure after teammate Harriet Dart lost to former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 6-0 in the opening singles. Vondrousova and Raducanu will meet in the first reverse singles on Saturday. The Czechs are favored to win the best-of-five qualifier for the finals in November.
