Put it this way: we need a separate tournament just to decide who gets to play in our Olympic trials. That's what 28 teams will be doing this week in Summerside, P.E.I., as they look to follow in the footsteps of 2014 Olympic champ Brad Jacobs. Nowhere else in the world is the talent pool so deep that a separate tournament is held to finalize the rinks who will have the right to compete for a spot at the Winter Games. That's right, in this curling-crazed country, there are trials just to get to the Olympic trials.

However, FIFA lists the teams as third and fourth respectively using the overall records of the teams in the tournament. The CAF Executive Committee approved the format for the qualifiers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on 14 January 2015.[27] ^ " Canada begins 2018 World Cup qualification in June".

The preliminary list of players has been revealed for Canada’s senior men’s national team that will participate in the first window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.

The list is comprised of mostly Euroleague and NBA G-League players as this first stage qualifier will played while the NBA season is going on, meaning Canada will be without its top talent for the event.

Included on this list are returning members from Canada’s eighth-place FIBA Americup squad from this past summer such as Jermaine Anderson, Joel Anthony and Xavier Rathan-Mayes. Roy Rana will take the reigns as head coach of the team.

The table below lists the numbers of spots allocated by FIFA for each continent in each tournament. In the 2006 qualifiers , New Caledonia were included in the tournament although they were not FIFA members at the date of close of entries. Canada .

Canada kicks off its FIBA World Cup qualifying mission in Halifax against the Bahamas on Nov. 24 and then travels to play the Dominican Republic on Nov. 27 to close out this first window. The second window begins on Feb. 22 in Canada against the U.S. Virgin Islands.

These four teams make up Group D of the Americas region qualifier. The top three teams of this group will advance to the second round of qualification.
