Blue Jays past and present celebrate Jose Bautista’s wedding MLB free agent Jose Bautista got hitched over the weekend, and invited several of his past teammates to take in the celebration. Marcus Stroman was most definitely there, and he even managed to snag a group photo with former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Danny Valencia, along with the team’s current second baseman, Devon Travis.© image image https://www.instagram.com/p/BbuH2TGBPOq/?hl=en&taken-by=sportsnethttps://www.instagram.

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays sent infielder Ryan Goins and right-hander Tom Koehler to the open market after declining to extend them 2018 offers ahead of Friday’s 8 p.m. ET deadline for tendering contracts to arbitration-eligible players.

Josh Donaldson, Marcus Stroman, Roberto Osuna, Aaron Sanchez, Kevin Pillar, Aaron Loup, Devon Travis, Ezequiel Carrera and Dominic Leone were all tendered contracts and will either have to agree to terms or settle matters in a hearing room.

Parting ways with Koehler, projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn $6 million in arbitration, was no surprise. The split with Goins was somewhat eyebrow-raising, given the Blue Jays have so much uncertainty up the middle with Troy Tulowitzki and Travis recovering from injuries.

Report: Blue Jays could emerge as ‘dark horse’ for J.D. Martinez

Report: Blue Jays could emerge as ‘dark horse’ for J.D. Martinez It’s no secret that the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to upgrade their outfield this offseason and according to a new report, J.D. Martinez is the latest name connected to the team. Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports is reporting that the Blue Jays “could emerge as a dark horse candidate” for Martinez.Heyman cited the departure of Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion in consecutive winters as a reason for Toronto to consider Martinez. Martinez split time last season with the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks, hitting .303/.376/.690 with 45 home runs and 104 runs-batted in over 119 games.

The Blue Jays declined to tender contracts to infielder Ryan Goins and right-handed pitcher Tom Koehler on Friday, making them free agents. Toronto also acquired shortstop Aledmis Diaz from the St. Louis Cardinals for minor-league outfielder J.B. Woodman.

# BlueJays essentially replace Ryan Goins with Aledmys Diaz today. Goins can field well, filled in all over. Diaz had a rough 2017, but still has OPS+ of 111 compared to Goins ' 64. Sportsnet Staff. Blue Jays non - tender infielder Ryan Goins , pitcher Tom Koehler .

That general manager Ross Atkins was willing to part with such an insurance policy suggests he feels confident about landing an alternative who provides an upgrade.

During the GM meetings last month, Atkins described adding a middle infielder capable of contributing offensively as the Blue Jays’ top priority this winter.

Blue Jays reiterate plan to push forward with Donaldson .
At this point it should be clear that the Toronto Blue Jays aren’t simply posturing when they talk about Josh Donaldson’s short-term future. Barring an impossible-to-say-no bounty from a club desperate to push itself over the top, he’s not going anywhere, and we’ll find out where that leads in a 2018 season in which their opportunities seem limited to wild card or bust.
