  Duhamel-Radford win pairs short program at Skate America Canada's Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford lead after the pairs short program at Skate America on Friday night, putting them in strong position to win a second Grand Prix event. Duhamel from Lively, Ont., and Radford from Balmertown, Ont., scored 75.37, beating China's Xiaoyu Yu and Hao Zhang at 73.67. Germany's Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot were third at 72.55 despite Massot's fall on a triple salchow. The pairs free skate is Saturday, and the Grand Prix Final is Dec. 7-10 in Nagoya, Japan.Duhamel and Radford won the Grand Prix Final in 2014-15, finished second the next year, and third last year.

LAKE LOUISE, Alta. - A 17-year-old ski racer from a club in Germany has died in a Calgary hospital after he was seriously injured during a NorAm event at Lake Louise, Alta.

RCMP says the racer lost control during his run on Tuesday afternoon and died from his injuries Wednesday in a Calgary hospital.

Officials from Skiclub Partenkirchen in Germany confirmed Max Burkhart was a member of their club and was badly injured during the competition.

EMS crews and doctors at Lake Louise the resort treated the teen at the scene and he was flown to Calgary by air ambulance.

A teammate told CTV News that Burkhart attends school in the United States and was not travelling with the team.

He says he skied the course before the race was cancelled and that conditions were good at the time.

Tay Valley man dead after ATV plunges through lake ice near Perth .
An 80-year-old Tay Valley Township man is dead after his ATV fell through the ice of a lake near Perth, Ont., where he'd been ice fishing, Ontario Provincial Police say. The body of Elmer Abercrombie was found Sunday afternoon by the OPP's underwater search and recovery unit beneath the surface of Bennett Lake. Abercrombie had apparently been ice fishing on the lake the day before. His family reported him missing around 9 p.m. Saturday night, after he was a few hours late returning home. Police said the man's family found a large hole in the ice on Bennett Lake and became concerned he had fallen through.
