28 Russians have Olympic doping bans lifted

28 Russians have Olympic doping bans lifted PYEONGCHANG, Korea, Republic Of - Twenty-eight Russian athletes have had their Olympic doping bans overturned, throwing the International Olympic Committee's policy on Russian doping into turmoil. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Thursday that evidence was "insufficient" that the 28 — including several medallists — had broken anti-doping rules at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. The 28 who had their bans lifted could now seek late entry into the Pyeongchang Games, which open Feb. 9.Eleven more were ruled to have been guilty of doping, but had lifetime bans cut to a ban from the Pyeongchang Games alone.

Baseball's 31st spring training camp will operate behind closed doors.

The MLB Players Association is barring all media from attending the union-operated free-agent training camp in Bradenton, Fla., a union spokesperson confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday night.

MLBPA executive director Tony Clark declined to comment to AP about the media ban.

Amid the abnormally slow free-agent market and rising tensions between MLB and its players' union, the PA decided to open the camp as an opportunity for unsigned players to get ready for the season and potentially showcase themselves.

The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Thomas Vanek to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Thomas Vanek has been on seven different NHL teams since the 2013-14 season and traded thrice during that time span, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise when the Vancouver Canucks shipped the winger to the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday ahead of the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline. In return, the Canucks get back veteran winger Jussi Jokinen and 22-year-old centre Tyler Motte.
