  SIU looking into fatal collision in Markham involving unmarked police car The province’s police watchdog is looking into a Markham collision after an unmarked police car struck and killed a male pedestrian Monday afternoon. The Special Investigations Unit says that a York Regional Police officer was operating the vehicle on Kennedy Rd., just north of Highway 7, when the pedestrian was struck. Police say he was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, which he later succumbed to. The SIU said it has assigned six investigators, three forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist.

Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw left Tuesday’s game early with what looked like a possible head injury.

Shaw made contact with Dallas Stars defenceman Greg Pateryn midway through the third period, but wound up taking the brunt of the head-to-head collision, which sent him crashing into the boards.

Shaw, who has a history of concussions, needed to be helped off the ice. The team has yet to diagnose anything, but is keeping him “under close evaluation.”

Pateryn appeared to be uninjured on the play, and even attempt to retaliate before realizing Shaw was hurt.
