Don't expect a Tiger, Phil pairing at the Ryder Cup Jim Furyk doesn't think a Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson pairing for the upcoming Ryder Cup would be a good idea. "It worked so well the first time," the captain of the American team said while laughing on the Golf Channel's Morning Drive, referring to the 2004 Ryder Cup when Tiger and Phil went 0-2 as partners. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are planning on playing some high-stakes golf for the world to see.

The former enemies (and current friends), almost participated in a prime-time special - a $10-million, winner-take-all, 18-hole match play event July 3 in Las Vegas - but are instead working on a different date, according to Alan Shipnuck of Golf.com.

Mickelson floated the idea at a press conference during The Players, where Woods responded he's on board for the competition against Lefty, saying they'll play for "whatever makes him uncomfortable."

While both players have earned their fair share of dough through their historic PGA Tour careers, Mickelson isn't sneezing at the price tag of the proposed event.

Mickelson continues apology tour after U.S. Open gaffe

Mickelson continues apology tour after U.S. Open gaffe Phil Mickelson continues to apologize for his U.S. Open blunder that sent the golf world into a frenzy. "It took me a little while for my anger and frustration to subside enough to where I could see clearly that I made not my best moves - it wasn't my best moment, and so I apologize," Mickelson said in an interview with the Golf Channel on Monday. "The best thing I can do is to start promoting the game again in a positive way."Mickelson made these remarks while attending an event benefitting youth and promoting the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in Chicago.

"It's a ridiculous amount of money," Mickelson said. "No matter how much money you have, this amount will take both of us out of our comfort zone."

Tiger and Phil have been linked at the hip for decades, and while their relationship hasn't always been smooth-sailing, their names always generate the most buzz. The pair going head-to-head with money on the line in a televised event would be must-see.
