Sarah Marantz’s business idea started because of a pimple. When a dermatologist advised her to sleep with her hair pulled back from her face, it sent the Winnipeg native down a research rabbit hole on all things hair-wrapping — a practice that goes back centuries in African and African-American communities. “Silk wrapping is a beauty secret that was passed down through generations. Women have been doing it for a really long time,” says Marantz, a fashion industry veteran who spent 10 years at fashion label Pink Tartan, working on all sides of the business, from marketing to merchandising.
