Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia's chief medical officer of health, confirmed the case during Friday's COVID-19 press briefing. Strang said the employee did not work in a public-facing role and he said there was no significant risk to anyone who had shopped at the store. Public health officials were working with the store to identify the employee's close contacts, Strang said, and the store was temporarily closed to clean. The grocery chain confirmed that the store is getting a thorough cleaning and is expected to reopen Saturday.

The opening of the 5th and Third shopping centre is a major milestone in the overall redevelopment of East Village, said Clare LePan, vice-president of marketing and communications for the Calgary Municipal Land Corp., the neighbourhood’s master developer.

“But more importantly, it betters the lives of our residents, along with our neighbours in adjacent communities on the east end of downtown Calgary, who now have convenient access to everyday essentials to care for themselves and their families,” LePan said in a news release.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the new East Village Superstore has implemented measures to reduce contact and control traffic, including limiting the number of people in the store at one time, plexiglass barriers between customers and cashiers, and decals on the floor to help customers distance while lining up to pay.

Removal of temporary sidewalk in Halifax draws social media backlash .
A decision to remove a temporary sidewalk on Quinpool Road in Halifax has been met with ire on Twitter. In a tweet on Friday, Halifax Regional Municipality said the move was in "response to feedback from Quinpool Road merchants and to address the changing needs of businesses in the area." Temporary sidewalks between Quingate Place and Monastery Lane were put there in late May in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It created more space for pedestrians to maintain proper physical distance. But it meant fewer spaces for parking and loading.
