  Google aims to get 'diverse perspectives' into search results Alphabet Inc's Google will put more of a premium on "diverse perspectives" in its search results, saying in a blog post on Tuesday that answers highlighted at the top of result pages would soon display multiple viewpoints on topics for the first time ever.The move comes as internet companies face increasing political pressure to rid their services of misleading or fake news, extremist content and hoaxes.

The tech giant has hired Dinesh Jain, most recently Time Warner Cable's former chief operating officer, as the Access team's CEO. He'll watch over business in the nearly 20 markets where both Fiber and Webpass operate. There aren't any indications as to whether or not he'll usher in a change of direction, but his career may speak volumes about Alphabet's intentions.

Jain has had over 20 years of experience working at telecoms. Before TWC, he had multiple leading roles at the American cable company Insight and the European provider NTL. Alphabet is picking someone who's intimately familiar with the telco world and a rock of stability, which it probably wants given the abrupt departure of former CEO Greg McCray.

  700,000 fewer apps on Google Play as they clean up the store Android users have more than 3,500,000 ‘approved' applications to choose from on Google Play but they need to be smart about which they select to ‘open' themselves up to.  The online community is no different to the offline one, there are always a few bad apples. In the case of app developing, those ‘few' are quick to multiply and this has led to 700,000 malicious apps being booted out of Google Play in 2017. Some were immediately seen to have violated Google Play's policies, whereas others may have been better at disguising themselves.

The Access unit could probably use the help. Access has been on shaky ground ever since Alphabet changed Google Fiber's direction to pause actual fiber rollouts and focus more on wireless internet. This doesn't mean you'll witness a renaissance, but you might see Access regroup and push forward after a year of uncertainty.

Apple Inc.’s HomePod, the company’s first foray into speakers in a decade, costs $216 to build and generates thinner profit margins than other products like the Apple Watch and iPhone, according to analysis by TechInsights. Given the HomePod’s $349 price, that $216 cost suggests Apple is generating margins of about 38 percent, according to the product analysis firm. That compares with margins of 66 percent and 56 percent for the Google Home and Amazon Echo, products that compete in the smart-speaker market, but offer lower audio quality, according to the firm’s estimates.
