Moby Slams Natalie Portman's Romance Denial: 'We Did in Fact Date' There are two sides to every story. While Natalie Portman is adamant that she and Moby never dated, the “Porcelain” singer has a different recollection of the pair’s past relationship. Celebrity Couples With Large Age Gaps “I recently read a gossip piece wherein Natalie Portman said that we’d never dated. This confused me, as we did, in fact, date,” the musician, 53, captioned a throwback picture of himself and Portman, 37, via Instagram on Wednesday, May 22. “And after briefly dating in 1999 we remained friends for years. It all started a few days ago when Natalie Portman claimed she never dated Moby.

“I was surprised to hear that he characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school,” Portman told Harper’s Bazaar.

Portman was responding to a chapter in Moby’s new memoir, Then It Fell Apart, in which the musician details meeting the actress. It was 1999 in Austin, Texas. After a concert, Moby writes that Portman arrived backstage and this led to a relationship.

Moby claims he dated Natalie Portman, but Natalie Portman and basic facts say he’s wrong

Moby claims he dated Natalie Portman, but Natalie Portman and basic facts say he’s wrong The musician says he and Natalie Portman dated. She says they didn't. So why is he doubling down?

Moby ' s apology to Natalie Portman is a reflection of a larger, disquieting phenomenon. Laurent Benhamou/Sipa/REX/Shutterstock. There are, of course, a few potential explanations for this, chief among them that Moby is telling the truth , or at least believes he is.

In his new memoir, When It Fell Apart, Moby claims that he dated Portman when he was 33 and I can’t figure out why she would actively misrepresent the truth about our (albeit brief) involvement. It was Moby who taken advantage of! He was just trying to save animals and help stop humans from

He says she was 20 at the time.

But simple arithmetic shows Portman, born in 1981, was 18.

“I was a teenager,” Portman told the magazine. “I had just turned 18. There was no fact checking from him or his publisher — it almost feels deliberate. That he used this story to sell his book was very disturbing to me. It wasn’t the case.”

But on Thursday, Moby doubled down. He posted a photo on Instagram in which he is bare-chested and grinning like a psychopath at a screening of Saw. His arm is draped around Portman. While also smiling, she looks vaguely uncomfortable.

Moby Accuses Natalie Portman of Lying as the Two Spar Over Dating Claims

Moby Accuses Natalie Portman of Lying as the Two Spar Over Dating Claims In what’s become a he said/she said spat in multiple mediums, Moby, the elder statesman of electronic music, is now accusing actress Natalie Portman of lying and pleading to those on social media for his safety as “physical threats from complete strangers” emerge. To recap: this month, Moby released a new book, “Then It All Fell Apart,” a follow-up to his well-received 2016 autobiography “Porcelain.

He says they did. She says they didn't — and calls his interest in her " creepy " and "inappropriate." Now he' s firing back, questioning why she would "actively misrepresent the truth ….".

Natalie Portman Denies Teen Relationship with ' Creepy ' Moby . Portman and Moby are 16 years apart in age, which may not be a huge thing as adults, but when she was still a teenager, it was enough. That math doesn't quite add up as Portman is now 37 and Moby is 53, so how does a

“I recently read a gossip piece wherein Natalie Portman said that we’d never dated,” Moby captioned the image. “This confused me, as we did, in fact, date … I can’t figure out why she would actively misrepresent the truth about our (albeit brief) involvement.”

So who is not telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Only these two know for sure.

However, according to a database search, there are multiple media references over the past 20 years that linked the two romantically. In a 2008 interview with Spin, Moby even talked about blowback from Star Wars fans over this “very brief affair.”

“(I)t’s made me the target of a lot of nerd wrath,” he said. “You can’t date Luke Skywalker’s mom and not have them hate your guts.”

His characterization then, unlike now, went unchallenged.

But further investigation also shows Moby has cast doubt upon what he now claims.

“It’s a cliché, but we’re just friends,” he told an Australian paper in 2000.

The headline — “ Natalie Portman on Moby , Harvey Weinstein and the documentary that turned her vegan” — referenced the fallen Hollywood movie mogul regarded Still , Moby is getting a fair amount of heat on social media for his insistence that Portman is not telling the truth , with pundits across

In his memoir, Then It Fell Apart, Moby states that the two shared a romance in 1999. Portman has since denied the account, characterizing Moby as " creepy ." [1] In the book, Moby states that he and Natalie Portman had a brief romance when he was "33" and she was "20."

Around the same time, he told the Mail on Sunday there was no affair.

“We met and we flirted for a while, but it was never really anything but faxes and flirtations,” he said.

Is there a way to square these comments with the new memoir?

Perhaps. In 2000, when asked if it was “true” he dated Portman, Moby was coy with the Herald-Sun: “I hate to say it, this is such a public-figure cliché, but all I can say is that she has a boyfriend now who is really wonderful, and that we’re really good friends.”

The insinuation was clear: he didn’t want their past to interfere with her future.

Last year, while working on the book, Moby revealed his thinking on libel and naming names in a tell-all. He could “write about dating Natalie Portman,” he told the Telegraph, because anyone can Google “pictures of us together.”

“But if I talk about an ex-girlfriend from the mid-90s who I had sex with on a dance floor at a Stevie Nicks club night, and she’s now a mom with three kids running for city council, she could sue the hell out of me.”

What’s also clear is that Portman intrigued Moby from the start.

Moby Apologizes To Natalie Portman: 'I Hate That I Might Have Caused Her Distress'

Moby Apologizes To Natalie Portman: 'I Hate That I Might Have Caused Her Distress' Moby has issued an apology to Natalie Portman this morning (May 25) after she called him out earlier this week for misrepresenting their relationship in his memoir, Then It Fell Apart. The musician originally wrote that he and Portman dated in 1999, but Portman denied it, telling Harper's Bazaar, "I was surprised to hear that he characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school. He said I was 20; I definitely wasn’t. I was a teenager. I had just turned 18.

Natalie Portman denies Moby ' s claims they dated in 1999 and calls him " creepy ". In his new 2019 memoir "Then It Fell Apart," the musician Moby claimed to have dated actress Portman , now 37 years old, told the outlet she remembers their relationship differently in an interview published Tuesday.

Natalie Portman has denied dating Moby in her teens, calling the musician' s behaviour "I was a bald binge drinker and Natalie Portman was a beautiful movie star. But here she was in my dressing "But, to be honest, I can't figure out why she would actively misrepresent the truth about our (albeit brief)

During a concert in 1999, reported the Boston Globe, he had the crowd yell “Hi Nat” on her voicemail. Around the same time, reported the Boston Herald, he demanded that security let Portman into a club where he was performing or he’d walk.

At 18, she was stopped at the doors with a fake ID.

So what should I do?” Moby asked on Instagram this week. “What do you do when people believe lies and accusations and not actual photographs and evidence?”

I’m not taking sides because, again, only these two know the truth.

But is it possible they are both guilty of revising history?

Is it possible they are both filtering the past through the present?

Portman, now an outspoken advocate for the Time’s Up movement, does not remember 1999 Moby as an idol she was keen to meet. She sees a “much older man being creepy.” His age now overshadows the lure of his celebrity then.

Meanwhile, Moby remembers 1999 Natalie Portman as a “movie star” who was “flirting with me.” He does not see an 18-year-old. Her celebrity now overshadows her age then. The Natalie Portman he writes about was a Hollywood powerhouse, not a girl who couldn’t even legally drink.

So since he asked, here’s what Moby should do: think about this week’s dispute from the perspective of that teenager. And think about why his 30-something goal of becoming her “boyfriend,” whether he was or not, is timelessly creepy.
