2026 World Cup bid offers 23 candidate cities The bid group hoping to bring the 2026 World Cup to North America has unveiled its 23 candidate cities but not without a crack to its much-ballyhooed unity theme. The list of potential host cities includes Edmonton, Montreal and Toronto. But Vancouver joined Chicago and Minneapolis in dropping out at the last minute over concerns about FIFA's demands.

Vancouver gas prices hit 150.9 cents a litre at some stations on Wednesday, and according to a prominent petroleum analyst, it’s likely to go up.

GasBuddy.com analyst Dan McTeague says the price has spiked 20 cents over the last couple of weeks. And, while this is not the highest price Vancouver has seen (it jumped to 156 cents a litre in July 2014,) it is the highest in North America.

"Basic Economy" Fares Are Coming To Canada. Here's What To Know

Canada is one of the most expensive countries in the world in terms of plane ticket prices. That being said, in 2018 things should get much better for budget travelers, mainly thanks to the long overdue arrival of Ultra Low-Cost Carriers in Canada, and the arrival of the "Basic Economy" fares. Air Canada announced the launch of this new "Basic Economy" fare class last week, while WestJet was quick to follow suit.

If you think Vancouver ’s gas prices are on the high side, you’d be right. “We’re number one by a long shot,” McTeague said. The region not only has the highest gas prices in the country, but all of North America . “I would actually argue in all of the Western Hemisphere with the exception of some island

Gasoline prices in the Pacific Coast city hit C.62 a liter (.77 a gallon) on Monday, the highest in North America , according to Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy, which collects real-time fuel prices from more than 140,000 gas stations on the continent.

McTeague says there are several factors contributing to the skyrocketing costs, including the declining Canadian dollar, a shortage of supply to the Lower Mainland, and a reliance on U.S. refineries, who are charging a premium for gas.

He says the Parkland refinery in Burnaby, which produces about 30 per cent of Vancouver’s fuel, is down for maintenance.

“So all these things combine to increase prices,” he said, adding that Vancouverites pay 49.4 cents a litre in taxes, which are the highest in North America.

Early Wednesday, McTeague said it was too early to say whether there was a chronic fuel shortage, but speculated that if there is consumers can expect another two-cent hike at the pumps.

He also said with spring maintenance coming up at most refineries, prices are likely going to remain high going into April.

“These are the highest prices that we have ever seen here in Vancouver ,” he said. McTeague recently told Vancouver radio station News 1130 that taxes on gas sold in B.C. account for 50 cents of every liter, which is the highest energy taxes in North America .

Crazy stat shows how unbalanced QB pay scale has become .
With NFL free agency in full swing, it is hard to ignore the quarterback pay scale. As it stands, the top four highest-paid quarterbacks in the league are now Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo, Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr. Do we see a Super Bowl champion quarterback among these names? Of course not. But it gets worse. The two highest paid QBs have zero playoff wins between them. Lol. Happy NFL new year! — Kalyn Kahler (@kalynkahler) March 14, 2018 Actually, the top FOUR have zero playoff wins combined. Which is less than Tim Tebow has … all by himself. https://t.co/gxdfykTpX0 — Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) March 14, 2018 Happy new year indeed. The Minnesota Vikings just made Cousins the highest-paid player in the league, and he now will earn a bloated annual salary of $28 million, fully guaranteed. He has been in two playoff games and lost both. When it comes to Garoppolo’s $27.5 million annual salary, the 49ers had to pay an exorbitant price to keep him long term. If they did not, another team would have. Jimmy G. is talented, but he literally has seven official NFL starts under his belt. Stafford as the third-highest paid makes the most sense here. He’s got an arm like cannon and is the Lions’ all-time leading passer with 34,749 yards on the books. It is just too bad Detroit can barely get into the postseason, let alone win a playoff game. Lastly, Carr makes a lofty $25 million and has not stepped foot in a postseason game. What’s also a bit worrisome is he regressed across the board in 2017. All the while, the eighth-highest paid quarterback is Joe Flacco at $22.13 million per year. He earns more than Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady. Those top four quarterbacks we mentioned won’t stay the highest-paid forever. But, it is what it is and things look terribly lopsided on the quarterback pay scale for now.
