Charges Filed Against East Alton Man for Stealing Copper from Wieland Group

EDWARDSVILLE — An East Alton man is in hot water after a burglary at the Wieland Group, previously known as Olin Brass, on September 13. The 35-year-old was charged on October 14, facing significant allegations of burglary, categorized as a Class 2 felony, and theft, which is considered a Class 3 felony.

The East Alton Police Department brought this case to light. Court documents reveal that the individual made his way into a building at the Wieland Group located at 427 N. Shamrock in East Alton, where he managed to walk away with around 740 pounds of copper.

As of Thursday, the price of copper stood at $4.98 per pound. Following the charges, he was released from custody.

Granite City Theft Charges Against Worden Woman

A 30-year-old woman from Worden also made the news, having been charged on October 14 with two counts of theft — one being a Class 3 felony and the other a Class 4 felony. This case was presented by the Granite City Police Department.

According to details in court documents, she took a Stihl DR 600 leaf blower from someone. Like the East Alton man, she was also released from custody.

Bicycle Theft in Cottage Hills

In another incident, a 31-year-old man from Cottage Hills was charged with theft on October 15, classified as a Class 4 felony. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is handling this case.

Court documents indicate that he stole a Mongoose bicycle from another person on September 16. The suspect has a past conviction for burglary from 2013 in Madison County and was released afterward.

South Roxana Man Accused of Theft of Cash and Tools

Yet another individual, a 33-year-old man from South Roxana, faces theft charges after he was caught obtaining money and a Sawzall tool from somebody on October 15. This Class 4 felony allegation has also been presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

It was mentioned that he had previous convictions related to motor vehicle offenses in Madison County from 2021. He was remanded to jail, and the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed a motion for additional pre-trial release conditions.

Moro Man Charged with Cash Theft

And lastly, a 43-year-old man from Moro was charged on October 15 with a Class 3 felony for theft, having reportedly stolen over $500 from someone on September 16. He was ordered to be released from custody as well.

Each of these individuals has only been charged and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Note that some charges might not be fully reported.
