Early Sunday morning, a tragic event unfolded near a nightclub in Midtown Manhattan, leaving a 39-year-old man dead. According to the NYPD, the suspect behind the shooting is currently evading capture.
This incident follows the recent wounding of New York Jets player Kris Boyd, who was shot just days ago outside a nearby restaurant.
At approximately 4:13 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire on West 46th Street and 12th Avenue, a short distance from the Intrepid Museum.
Upon arrival, the police discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his back and groin. The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was quickly transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
To date, no arrests have been made, and law enforcement is actively searching for the assailant involved in this incident.
The timing of this shooting is particularly notable, occurring a week after the injury of Boyd, a defensive player for the Jets. That shooting took place on November 16, when Boyd, along with some friends, got into an altercation outside of Sei Less restaurant, located about two miles from the latest shooting scene.
Boyd’s situation remains critical; he is currently hospitalized with a bullet lodged in his lung. Jets coach Aaron Glenn expressed optimism after communicating with Boyd, assuring reporters that he believes Boyd will recover.
The string of violence shows a need for answers as the police investigate the circumstances surrounding both incidents. In Boyd’s case, the altercation is believed to have been fueled by an exchange of comments regarding attire between the Jets players and another group inside the establishment.
While no arrests have been reported in relation to Boyd’s shooting, authorities have identified a potential suspect and are hoping to speak with him soon.
