(KRON) — Authorities from El Cerrito have reported the arrest of five suspects during a retail theft operation on Thursday. Among them was a wanted parolee, and law enforcement was able to recover more than $1,500 in stolen goods.
The sting focused on two popular retail locations: the Marshall’s and CVS stores situated in El Cerrito Plaza. During this precise operation, cops were also successful in interrupting four ongoing thefts, as per the police announcement.
According to police, one of the captured suspects was already a wanted parolee with multiple convictions for theft. Another suspect, who initially provided a fake identity, turned out to have an active warrant for grand theft, alongside possession of fentanyl.
All recovered merchandise was returned to the respective stores.
“Organized retail theft has real consequences — it impacts employees, business owners, and the community as a whole,” emphasized El Cerrito police in their release. “We are committed to performing similar targeted operations as we move closer to the bustling holiday shopping season.”
