(KRON) — Uatesoni Joseph Paasi, the man alleged to have fatally shot another individual during an argument about parking in front of the victim’s family back in June 2021, was caught in Mexico recently, according to an announcement by the San Jose Police Department.
Paasi had fled the United States, and law enforcement had reason to believe he was hiding in Mexico. Eventually, on November 22, 2025, law enforcement officials from the U.S. Marshals Service, along with their Mexican counterparts, successfully located and arrested Paasi in Rosarito.
On December 2, 2025, Detecitves from SJPD successfully extradited Paasi back to the U.S., where he was jailed in the Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder. Following his arrest, San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph issued a stern warning to fugitives in the area.
“If you’re thinking you can hide, remember we will track you down, regardless of where you flee,” Joseph stated. “Our commitment to pursuing dangerous criminals knows no borders. There’s no hiding place on this planet for someone who has committed murder in San Jose.”
Over the past four years, law enforcement invested significant effort into locating Paasi, the police report revealed.
“Every single murder leaves a mark, but some cases can obsess detectives for years,” said SJPD. “When this tragedy occurred—a family witnessing a murder by a suspect who vanished and left the country—the whole SJPD Homicide Unit, alongside the specialized SJPD Covert Response Team, dedicated themselves to catching the shooter and ensuring he faced justice.”
