Authorities have apprehended a second individual connected to a brutal assault that resulted in the death of a man in Long Beach.
Brandon Brewington, 36, and Thongsay Ky, 58, are now facing murder charges for the death of Chamrong Sok, 52, according to updates from the Long Beach Police Department.
The situation began on March 11 when police were dispatched to a local hospital, where they learned about a man with serious injuries to his upper body.
Despite his condition, Sok wasn’t forthcoming about the details of the attack but managed to convey that he was assaulted in a parking lot located near Anaheim Street.
Tragically, Sok succumbed to his injuries on April 24, prompting the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner to classify his death as a homicide.
As investigators probed further, Thongsay Ky was identified as one of the suspects. Importantly, both Ky and Sok were reportedly homeless at the time of the incident.
The breakthrough came on July 2, when Ky was located in his vehicle in the 1400 block of South Harbor Scenic Drive, leading to his arrest for murder. He is currently being held on a $2 million bail.
Weeks later, on August 14, police tracked down the second suspect, Brewington, who was already in custody on another charge when he was charged with murder.
While the exact motives behind this deadly encounter are still being investigated, authorities believe there was a physical confrontation involved between the suspects and the victim.
The case has now been forwarded to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office for further action.
