Over a Year in Prison for Kevin Delgado for Harassing Michigan’s AG
A man from New York has been sentenced to a year and a day in a federal penitentiary after making threats against Michigan’s own Attorney General Dana Nessel. This incident took place on social media.
Kevin Delgado, age 40 and hailing from Bayside, New York, learned of his fate today, as confirmed by United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. and Reuben C. Coleman, Acting Special Agent in Charge at the FBI’s Detroit Field Division.
The incident occurred on October 22, 2023. It all started when Nessel posted on X about a tragic event—the untimely death of a friend. The post included a picture of her with the late friend, and she expressed her sorrow, shedding light on the friend’s faith and contributions to the community. Unfortunately, Delgado responded to Nessel’s heartfelt message with a threat.
Court documents reveal that Delgado admitted guilt back in May 2025 for sending threats via interstate communication. What’s striking is that he stated he specifically targeted AG Nessel due to her actual or perceived sexual orientation and faith.
U.S. Attorney Gorgon made a critical statement regarding the need to safeguard public figures. “We must ensure that all citizens can express themselves without fearing for their safety. Public servants deserve these protections as well,” he highlighted.
Supporting this sentiment, Coleman remarked that Delgado’s sentencing is a clear indication that elected officials should never feel intimidated while doing their jobs. He also appreciated the law enforcement agencies that played a role in bringing this case to a close.
