London, UK – The royal family faced a shocking incident last year when a burglary took place at their Windsor estate, and now, in a surprising turn, police announced they are closing the investigation due to a lack of leads.

Prince William (r.) and his wife, Princess Catherine, were asleep at a nearby cottage when the burglary took place.

According to The Sun, law enforcement has followed a number of leads during their inquiry, but ultimately stated, “The investigation has now been filed pending any further information.”

An insider revealed that the police struggled to find any substantial evidence, commenting, “They’ve looked into various angles but haven’t managed to uncover anything at all.”

“It’s quite alarming that this case has just been dropped,” the source shared. “Other forces are also having difficulty solving burglary cases at the moment, but you’d expect Windsor Castle to offer more security compared to most places.”

Last October, the robbers managed to access the Windsor Castle grounds, climbing over a six-foot fence to steal farm vehicles that were parked in a barn.

It’s worth noting that at the time of the incident, Prince William and his wife, Kate, were present on the estate, presumably asleep with their three children in nearby Adelaide Cottage on that infamous Sunday night.
