FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A string of troubling incidents unfolded in Tysons this Thursday when a woman was robbed at gunpoint, leading to a burglary at her boyfriend’s place not long after. Law enforcement believes the events might be related.
It all started around 9:10 a.m. when police responded to a report from the 8600 block of Westwood Center Drive. The woman reported that while she was walking through a parking garage, a masked man confronted her with a rifle and stole her phone. Thankfully, she managed to escape unharmed, and the suspect ran off before authorities arrived.
Fast forward about 15 minutes, the woman’s boyfriend arrived to find his home on alert. His security system notified him of a break-in at his residence located on Plateau Drive in Fair Oaks. When he checked, he found the burglar inside!
Cops quickly made their way to the scene, where they confirmed that some items were taken, but, by that time, the intruder had already made a swift getaway.
Thanks to the reactivity of the police, the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Mohammad Asif from California, was soon tracked down at a nearby location and arrested. He now faces charges including burglary, grand larceny twice, as well as conspiracy charges for robbery and using a firearm in connection with the offense. Asif is currently being held without bond.
Authorities are digging deeper into both incidents since they suspect there’s a definitive link between the robbery victim and the attacker, hinting that these actions were far from random.
