Supernatural fans might be excited seeing Jensen Ackles back in action, but his latest venture isn’t taking the streaming world by storm. Released on June 25, the much-anticipated crime drama Countdown quickly fell from grace.

The show debuted fairly strong, hitting second place in Prime Video’s rankings shortly after its launch, but critics weren’t impressed. Countdown garnered a mere 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, although viewers seem to disagree somewhat, giving it a cool 71% on the Popcornmeter.

Now, as Episode 4 is about to roll out on June 30, Countdown has been ousted from the Top 10 by We Were Liars and the hit biblical series The Chosen, according to FlixPatrol.

Kristen Haas, the creator behind Countdown, has crafted a season of 13 episodes, which usually means there’s plenty of room for improvement. However, its rough reception leaves fans wondering where it will go next.

Meanwhile, The Chosen has been busy winning over hearts since its debut in 2019. With its fifth season kicking off on June 15 and wrapping up June 29, it continues to soar. Credited with a perfect score during its first season and boasting a stunning 97% audience approval rating on the Popcornmeter, The Chosen is proving to be a powerhouse on Prime Video.

Jumping right into the action, Season 5 highlights the lead-up to Jesus’ crucifixion and Last Supper. The excitement around its latest season is palpable, with a focus on Jesus navigating the tensions of His role as a leader among the Jewish people. A snapshot from Prime Video describes this intricate unfolding: “The table is set. New challenges arise as Jesus faces the looming threat against Him this Passover.”

For those eagerly awaiting more, the future of The Chosen looks bright. Create Dallas Jenkins has confirmed that they’re working on Season 6, filming various scenes in Italy right now, including the tough crucifixion moment. While Jenkins admits that filmmaking is a challenge, he’s passionate about the truth they’re bringing to the screen: “I’m excited to share this with the world,” he declared post-Season 5’s finale.

Both Countdown and The Chosen are currently available for binge-watching on Prime Video.
