Elvira is back in the spotlight, and this time she’s sharing her thoughts on none other than Ariana Grande.
In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, the Mistress of the Dark discussed her feelings toward the pop star, months after calling her out for being disrespectful during their first encounter years ago. Spoiler alert: She’s still not a huge supporter.
“I told a true story,” Elvira stated. “It really happened – I wasn’t stretching the truth. Her behavior was quite offensive.”
Continuing, Elvira noted, “All the celebrities who have visited my show have always shown kindness and appreciation… but she did not. It’s disheartening to see that happen.”
This revelation comes nearly a year after Elvira first opened up about the awkward moment with Grande, which took place about seven years ago at one of her events. “She came backstage with 20 friends and family members, asking for pictures with all of them. I obliged and snapped photos and signed autographs for each one. But when I finally asked her if we could take a picture together, she replied, ‘Nah, I don’t really do that.’”
In response to Elvira’s story, Grande later took to Instagram to share her take on the incident. “I honestly don’t even recall meeting you due to having an anxiety attack that day and leaving before my family, but if I’ve misremembered this moment, I truly apologize for offending you so much,” she expressed in October 2024.
However, Elvira did not think that Grande’s apology was sincere. She told EW, “There’s a term for when someone says one thing but feels another…. like, ‘Thanks, but not really, thanks.’”
After that, Elvira decided to let the matter go. “When you’re in the entertainment industry for a while, you learn a lot and hopefully become more humble along the way. I really hope that will be the case for her,” Elvira added.
Ariana Grande has had plenty of success since that encounter, releasing three chart-topping albums—Thank U, Next, Positions, and Eternal Sunshine. She also snagged her dream role as Glinda in the upcoming Wicked films, even earning an Oscar nomination last year for Best Supporting Actress. Look out for the second part of the franchise, Wicked: For Good, hitting theaters this November.
