Explore Diane Keaton’s Stunning Former Midcentury-Modern Home Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Son

Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton, who sadly passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 79, was known for her passion for historic architecture. Over the years, she bought and flipped a variety of legendary homes. In 2007, she took ownership of the remarkable Alfred Newman House, a masterpiece from 1948 crafted by Lloyd Wright, the son of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. After a major renovation, she decided to list the house in 2010 for a whopping $13.25 million.

According to Redfin, this midcentury-modern marvel, boasting five bedrooms, ultimately changed hands in 2020 for $9.25 million. Fast forward to February of this year, the new owner marked the stunning 1.4-acre property at $12.9 million. However, this listing saw its fair share of adjustments and lifting off the MLS, being re-listed a couple more times, as Zillow reports. The latest attempt to sell was for $10.4 million through Frank Langen at Compass, before the property was pulled from the market completely on September 30.

While Keaton called this architectural gem home, she took on several projects, including updating the kitchen and restoring the custom wood features and built-ins, reflecting the architectural legacy that the younger Wright inherited from his father. Not only that, but she also gave her personal touch to the expansive master bedroom, converting it into a cozy loft area that wrapped around the entire second floor.

The 4,400-square-foot home wasn’t just any residence; it was built for the Oscar-winning composer Alfred Newman (known for classics like How the West Was Won and All About Eve). This brick-and-concrete wonder impressively features a slanted roof, deviating from typical midcentury designs, along with amenities like an outdoor kitchen, pool, and a separate music studio.

Keaton’s fascination with Lloyd Wright’s designs was no coincidence. In the 90s, she seized the opportunity to rescue and revamp the Samuel Novarro Residence, a stunning Mayan Revival retreat dating back to 1928 in Los Feliz. Her work alongside architect Josh Schweitzer was remarkable, and the property hit the market in 2018 with a listing of just under $4.3 million.
