These remarks were directed at Alabama State University’s dance group known as the “Honey Beez” and were announced by Joe Bullard, a long-time band announcer at FAMU, over the stadium PA right after the group’s half-time performance.

As a consequence, Bullard is now suspended from the next two game broadcasts.

SWAC has stated, “The league will not tolerate inappropriate actions or disparaging language, and we ensure strict measures against it.” They also acknowledged FAMU’s apology, expressing confidence that similar incidents will be avoided in the future.

In support of the Honey Beez, Alabama State President Dr. Quinton T. Ross released a statement, commending the dance group for their amazing representation of the university.

“Honey Beez, you are cherished and valued for the joy you spread within the Hornet Nation. Your bold representation reflects the best of ASU,” he remarked. “Keep shining brightly; negativity can never overshadow your light.”

Furthermore, Ross mentioned that he has communicated with FAMU’s president, Marva Johnson, who has publicly expressed her apologies to both the dance group and Alabama State as a whole.
