Jacob Karty: The Kicker Who Made NFL Fans Go Wild with His Missed Field Goal

Estimated read time 2 min read

Los Angeles Rams kicker Jacob Karty had a rough outing during Sunday’s game when his should-have-been simple field goal attempt from 26 yards hit the right upright, resonating a loud ‘doink’ that sent waves through NFL social media.

With a chance to tie the game at 3-3 in the first quarter against the Baltimore Ravens, Karty didn’t convert. This missed opportunity didn’t just fade away; it quickly went viral, highlighting ongoing struggles for the Rams’ special teams unit.

Earlier this season, Karty had another close call when his game-winning kick against the Philadelphia Eagles was blocked. That moment made waves too, especially when Eagles’ defensive lineman Jordan Davis picked up the block and raced it back for a touchdown to clinch the win in Week 3. He had also missed two kicks in that match.

In addition to the Eagles’ mishap, Karty faced another setback last week in a nail-biter against the San Francisco 49ers, where he missed a field goal and an extra point during the team’s 26-23 overtime loss.

In those earlier matches against the Eagles and 49ers, the Rams’ record took a hit, as both losses are now livid reminders on LA’s playbook this season.

Despite these setbacks, Karty had previously shown promise, completing 29 of 34 field-goal attempts and nailing 32 of 34 extra-point tries during the 2024 season. His longest kick was an impressive 51 yards. Currently, this season he stands at 9-for-12 on field goals and 12-of-14 on extra points.
