Machine Gun Kelly is set to play a major role in ESPN’s college football promotion for the 2025-2026 season, thanks to his new anthem, “Don’t Wait Run Fast.” This track is taken from his anticipated album, “Lost Americana,” which drops on August 8.
Recently, MGK was a guest on the Pat McAfee Show, where he shared some behind-the-scenes stories about how this song came to be.
He mentioned, “It’s funny because I wrote this song right after performing at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl party, even though they lost.” He couldn’t help but highlight how odd it felt to perform, saying, “Who actually attends afterparties for teams that don’t win? Definitely not the players or any fans.”
Adding to the awkwardness was the fact that MGK had a longer set than other musical guests: “I had to fill an hour on stage while Quavo and Shaboozey got to perform just one song and leave.”
Things got even more lively when McAfee asked MGK if he would follow college football more closely now that his song would be featured. In his eagerness to answer, though, he made a playful misstep. “I was a tight end, I scored one football. I mean one–” but before he could correct himself, McAfee jumped in jokingly, “Let’s keep the mic away from you at sporting events!”
McAfee had a laugh, stating, “You nailed a grand slam in that football game!” MGK finally got a chance to clarify, saying, “I meant to say I scored one touchdown—oops, saying ‘one football’ is hilarious!”
