Nelly Furtado has decided to hit pause on her music performances.

In a heartfelt social media post, the Grammy-winning artist shared her choice to step away from the concert scene amid recent body-shaming comments flooding in online.

She wrote on Instagram, “I’ve made the decision to take a break from performing for the foreseeable future. I’m excited to explore some personal and creative projects that I believe align better with this new chapter of my life,” while celebrating 25 years since the launch of her first album, “Whoa, Nelly!”

Reflecting on her incredible career, she continued, “I’ve loved every moment of it, and soundtrack-wise, I still love writing music, which always felt like a joyful hobby turned passion. I will forever identify as a songwriter at heart.”

Known for her iconic hits from the early 2000s like “I’m Like a Bird” and “Promiscuous,” Furtado took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, acknowledging how her music has endured for a new generation.

Looking back, she recalled, “Twenty-five years ago, my debut album ‘Whoa, Nelly!’ was released. In the first photo, I’m just 20, gearing up for my first performance at Lilith Fair. I still remember buying that signature pink dress and shimmering platform shoes at a store called ‘Original’ in Toronto. It was such a pivotal moment that made me feel fully like an artist.”

She further celebrated, “Twenty-five years on, it warms my heart that my music has resonated with a whole new wave of fans. I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Furtado expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the renewed interest in her music through streaming and social media channels.

Recently, she addressed critics who hurled negative comments her way after she showcased a powerful fashion choice at the Manchester Pride festival. At the event, she wore a standout oversized T-shirt that featured a cartoon of a woman in a crop top and mini skirt, making a statement against body-shaming.

She clarified, “I’ve never gone for any facelifts, lip injections, or fillers. The only procedure I’ve had is recent veneers on my top teeth.”
