SALT LAKE CITY (KTVX) — After a lot of buzz and speculation, Nintendo has finally revealed who will be playing the iconic characters in the forthcoming live-action movie adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda.”
Announced via the Nintendo Today! app, the gaming giant confirmed Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, the protagonist of the series.
Both Bragason and Ainsworth hail from the UK and are in the early stages of their acting journeys, according toIMDb. Currently, Bragason has nine credited acting roles, including her part as Roxy in Disney+’s original series “Renegade Nell.”
Ainsworth is a bit more recognizable. He gained attention for his performances in notable roles, such as Miles Wingrave in Netflix’s horror series “The Haunting of Bly Manor” and as the voice of Pinocchio in the 2022 film featuring Tom Hanks.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo director known for his work on classics like “Super Mario Bros.” and “The Legend of Zelda,” expressed his excitement for the film, stating, “I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
Details on the actor playing Ganon, the main villain of the series who often seeks the power of the Triforce to dominate Hyrule, are still under wraps.
Miyamoto also mentioned that the release date for the movie is set for May 7, 2027, adding, “Thank you for your patience.”
This upcoming movie marks Nintendo’s second attempt at a live-action project, following the success of their collaboration with Illumination on “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” released in 2023. That film featured a star-st cast, including Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black.
