Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to Close for Muppets Makeover in 2026

Estimated read time 3 min read

The beloved Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney World is set to be reimagined with a fresh Muppets theme, slated for a grand debut in 2026. Recent updates have confirmed that the preshow featuring Aerosmith has already been taken down as part of the transition.

Important Dates and Details:

  • The final chance to ride the Aerosmith-themed attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be on March 1, 2026.
  • The roller coaster, popular since its opening in 1999, is winding down its star-st era.
  • Earlier reports hinted that changes were already underway with the dismissal of the Aerosmith preshow.

According to Disney, March 1, 2026, is officially marked as the last ride day for the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, highlighting the end of its long-standing Aerosmith association. The coaster had originally launched 27 years ago and has been a staple experience at the Hollywood Studios park.

Entertainment Weekly initially broke the news that the Aerosmith-themed preshow video had been scrapped, which introduced riders to the attraction by showcasing the band during a recording session. This change is designed to kickstart the new Muppets’ experience seamlessly and to minimize any disruption for guests while refurbishment is in process.

In this new setup, classic Muppets characters like Kermit and Scooter will join animatronics from the beloved MuppetVision 3D show, alongside the funky Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem band. They will help whisk guests away in a ride focused on the group’s quest to find them for their huge Hollywood concert, which they’ve mysteriously gone missing from.

This transition follows the closure of MuppetVision 3D earlier in June, as Disney announced plans to rejuvenate that area into a new Monsters, Inc.-inspired zone, featuring an indoor suspended roller coaster based on the memorable door dilemma from the animated film. Work for this expansion is currently in progress.

Rumblings of the Muppets moving into the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster area began back in November 2024. Disney is taking insights from its creative team regarding preserving aspects of MuppetVision for future audiences, especially given its notable connects with Jim Henson, who was integral in its development before his passing in 1990.

Disney hinted back then that they were considering ways to integrate Muppet experiences into new attractions while maintaining ties to the legacy that fans cherish.

Meanwhile, Disney World continues to roll out new experiences including a much-anticipated Encanto ride set within Animal Kingdom’s Dinoland, which is undergoing a major makeover, along with reboots of classic attractions like the Dinosaur ride.

So mark your calendars! If you want to experience the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster with Aerosmith before the change, be sure to visit by March 1, 2026. The Muppets ride will be the new main event as it opens later that year. Don’t miss out!
