Hey, gamers! Exciting news — Roman Reigns just gave us a sneak peek at his portrayal of Akuma in the highly anticipated Street Fighter movie!
On December 11, the WWE superstar shared a striking image of himself in full Akuma costume. This shot comes fresh from the film’s debut trailer, which premiered at The Game Awards and sent social media buzzing.
In the image, Reigns nails that iconic Akuma vibe, sporting the character’s signature dark, spiky hair and those fierce glowing red eyes. His outfit looks great too, featuring a worn-down gi with some cool kanji on the back — definitely true to the game’s style!
Fans online have expressed their thoughts, with many claiming that Reigns is more than fitting for this role — some are even pleasantly surprised at how well he embodies such a strong and powerful character.
This reboot of the Street Fighter film series is directed by Kitao Sakurai, based on a screenplay by Dalan Musson. It’s a fresh start for the live-action adventures drawn from the famous Capcom series.
The cast boasts a vibrant lineup that includes talent like Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, and of course, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoaʻi, along with other fantastic actors such as David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Andrew Schulz, Eric André, Vidyut Jammwal, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Jason Momoa.
This project has been brewing since Legendary Entertainment snagged the rights back in April 2023, with Capcom also getting involved as a producer. There were some behind-the-scenes changes initially, with Danny and Michael Philippou set as directors but ultimately stepping away. Sakurai then took the reins.
Filming went down from August to November this year, and as of now, Paramount Pictures is eyeing an October 16, 2026, release in the U.S.
The movie is set in 1993, centering on Ryu and Ken as they get called back into action by Chun-Li for a new World Warrior Tournament. However, this tournament might be hiding some serious dangers. Paramount teasingly hints at the story with, “And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
