In the trailer, we see Jaafar Jackson—yes, he’s actually the son of Jermaine, one of Michael’s brothers—taking on the role of the King of Pop. He’s not just acting; he’s bringing the full Michael experience with powerful vocals and those unforgettable dance steps.

This biopic is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan. We’ve got Jaafar in his debut major film role, with the talented Colman Domingo stepping in as Joe Jackson, Michael’s dad and manager. Nia Long plays his mother, Katherine, while Kat Graham shines as the Motown legend Diana Ross. And let’s not forget Miles Teller bringing the character of Michael’s lawyer, John Branca, to life, along with Juliano Krue Valdi as a young Michael.

In the thrilling teaser, you can spot Jaafar donning Michael’s trademark flashy outfits and signature hats while performing on stage. The movie is set to explore “both his off-stage life and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career,” promising fans unprecedented access to Michael’s world.

Colman Domingo, known for his Oscar-nominated role in Rustin, shared with PEOPLE that he’s been thoroughly enjoying the filming experience.

The biopic will take us on a journey through Michael’s life, kicking off from his days with the Jackson 5 back in the late 1960s, all the way to his untimely passing in 2009. The impressive cast also includes Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe and Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, among many others.

Planning for this movie started back in November 2019, but it was officially announced by Lionsgate in February 2022. Antoine Fuqua joined the team as the director in January 2023, around the same time Jaafar was casted.

Filming took place from January to May 2024, with some additional shoots in June. Mark your calendars because this film is set to officially debut on April 24, 2026, in the United States, while Universal Pictures will handle global distribution.
