The creators of ‘South Park’, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, had a candid reaction to the drama sparked by their recent episode, which featured President Trump in an unforgettable scenario with Satan and a joke about his private parts. During a panel at Comedy Central’s Comic-Con, Parker humorously said, “We’re terribly sorry,” which drew laughter from the audience.
This controversial season 27 premiere caught the attention of the White House, which issued a statement to The Guardian, claiming the show has been out of touch for over 20 years and is struggling for relevance. A spokesperson for Trump, Taylor Rogers, emphasized, “President Trump has made more promises in just six months than any other president in our country’s history, and no fourth-rate show can undermine his success.”
In addition to poking fun at Trump, the episode also took a jab at Paramount, referencing the company’s recent $16 million settlement related to a lawsuit from the former president. The timing was particularly noteworthy as Paramount just received the green light from the FCC for a significant $8 billion merger with Skydance.
Interestingly, this episode aired shortly after Parker and Stone negotiated a massive deal with Paramount for the rights to ‘South Park’, a contract valued at over $1 billion, as noted by Variety.
When it came to the depiction of Trump, the producers suggested blurring the imagery, but Parker and Stone refused that notion. Despite the uncertainties of week-to-week production, Parker admitted they were initially unsure how the audience would react to this bold episode, sharing, “Just three days ago, we were sitting there going, ‘I don’t know if people are going to like this.’”
