Taylor Swift’s Home Style is Just What You’d Expect

Taylor Swift definitely has a loungewear style that’s on brand for her.

Last night, she made an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where they dove into everything from the Eras Tour to her recent engagement with Travis Kelce. During a lighthearted chat about her off-stage lifestyle and how she unwinds after shows, Colbert posed a great question: What’s the biggest difference between Taylor Swift at home and Taylor Swift performing on stage?

To set the vibe, Colbert noted, You’re at home in your athleisure, but Taylor quipped back, letting everyone know her at-home look is more akin to a Victorian specter than just comfy activewear.

I’m actually wearing an old Victorian nightgown, she shared with a chuckle. If someone peeked through the window, I want them to think they saw a ghost, you know what I mean?

This revelation didn’t surprise her longtime fans, especially since Swift’s lyrics often reflect a love for the classic literary style, drawing influence from works like Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. In albums like folklore and evermore, she’s labeled some tracks as her “quill pen” songs, a nod to how she envisions crafting her lyrics. If my lyrics sound like letters from Emily Dickinson’s great grandmother while making lace curtains, that’s what I mean by Quill genre, she explained during her 2022 Nashville Songwriter Awards acceptance speech.

During the interview with Colbert, Taylor also chatted about what books are on her metaphorical nightstand, conjuring images steeped in the same Victorian themes of specters and ivy-laden castles.

Moving on, she highlighted how important it is for her to keep her home life distinct from her career. Unlike many artists who set up recording spaces in their homes, Swift deliberately chose not to create an at-home studio because she likes to keep her space free from any music industry clutter. I don’t want any signs that a music person lives here, she admitted, aside from her trusty piano and guitar. I want to feel cozy at home, and if I’m heading to the studio, that becomes a special outing for me.

She wrapped up her chat with an appreciative nod towards her close friends and family, emphasizing how they help her maintain a level of privacy in her life: I can share anything with them, and it never finds its way into the media.
