Trey Yesavage, the breakout star for the Toronto Blue Jays, is making waves in the baseball world.

In Game 5 of the World Series, this rookie dazzled everyone by striking out a record-setting 12 batters from the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking a new high for first-year players in this championship series.

Thanks to his impressive pitching, the Blue Jays are just one win away from clinching their first World Series title since 1993, having secured a 6-1 victory before returning home for a potential final game.

The Blue Jays celebrated Yesavage’s phenomenal stats by sharing a graphic online, which caught the eye of his girlfriend, Taylor Frick. According to the New York Post, she posted it to her story with an emotional message saying, “still crying.”

She went on to express her excitement in another post, exclaiming, “Best day ever!!!”

Before stepping onto the playoff stage, Yesavage had only played 13 innings in the MLB. But he surprised everyone with his exceptional performance against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series, striking out 11 batters in a stunning 5.1 shutout innings. Despite a rocky moment that saw him giving up five runs in a game against the Seattle Mariners, he rebounded strong, yielding the same number of runs over his next three outings while pitching for 16.2 innings.

The game kicked off with Davis Schneider hitting the very first pitch he saw for a home run, instantly setting a positive tone for the Blue Jays. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continued the momentum with his eighth postseason homer, extending their lead to 2-0 in a crucial match.

In the bottom of the third inning, Yesavage faced his only hurdle when Enrique Hernandez smashed a ball over the left-field fence on a 2-0 splitter, briefly igniting the crowd at Dodger Stadium.

The Blue Jays wasted no time in regaining control, with a run scored when Teoscar Hernandez mishandled a hit by Daulton Varsho, allowing Varsho to race to third base. Ernie Clement then hit a sacrifice fly, restoring their two-run lead.

Yesavage kept up the good work and the Blue Jays extended their advantage in the seventh inning, with Addison Barger scoring from a single and three wild pitches, shortly followed by Bo Bichette who singled Andres Gimenez home, pushing the score to 5-1. Another run from Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the eighth added crucial insurance.

With Yesavage done for the night, manager John Schneider turned to Seranthony Dominguez and closer Jeff Hoffman to seal the win in Game 5.

The Dodgers, the reigning champions, are now in a tight spot. They’ll need to rally in the upcoming two games to keep their title aspirations alive. Luckily for them, they’ll lean on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has been a dominant force, seeking his third consecutive complete game win, while his matchup against Kevin Gausman, who put on a solid show but experienced trouble for team Toronto in Game 2, looms large.
