David Beckham has interestingly shared how his lifestyle draw kicks in, all thanks to his good buddy, Guy Ritchie, the filmmaker with a penchant for the great outdoors. The former football superstar, now 50, has made a wholesome lifestyle change after buying a beautiful English home in the Cotswolds for a cool £6 million back in December 2016.
Since making the move, the London-born Beckham has taken to sharing snippets of his new passions—beekeeping, growing vegetables, and raising chickens—on his social media pages.
In an introspective moment, David revealed that it was his friend and renowned director Guy, who is now 57, that sparked this love for a countryside lifestyle.
In an upcoming issue of Country Life magazine, which he edited to mark the magazine’s 50th anniversary, David discussed how much Guy has encouraged him to embrace rural life.
“He truly is a modern-day caveman and has helped me connect deeper with the beauty of the countryside, giving me new perspectives along the way,” Beckham fondly expressed. He reminisced about those nights spent chatting late into the fire, just the two of them.
According to David, Guy embodies the essence of country living, particularly evident in his love for his estate in Wiltshire. “Time spent with him has been pivotal in my admiration for countryside life, making me appreciate it much more than ever before,” Beckham said.
He further acknowledged that Guy is not just a friend; he’s a mentorship figure from whom he learns about life, land management, and even British traditions.
Beckham’s new interests in the countryside include his own beekeeping journey; he enthused about crafting a beehive right in his backyard during the lockdown. “Seeing that honey in my kitchen during harvest makes me pretty emotional,” he confessed in an interview with Men’s Health.
Sharing other joys from life in the Cotswolds, he stated, “I have my country chickens, garden duties, times spent with friends, and, of course, sharing a pint or a good glass of wine. This is what truly delights me. My chickens and vegetable patch — I’m incredibly proud of everything related to that countryside house.”
Additionally, David has taken notes from Guy when it comes to outdoor cooking setups. He invested in an outdoor BBQ tent through Guy’s WildKitchens venture. This tent forms part of a luxurious outdoor kitchen setup and contains all sorts of nifty items, including a stylish WildTent designed for upscale grilling and dining.
David’s outdoor cook space features a spacious ‘double tent’ that can fit a dozen friends around a generous seating table with a large grill. Speaking to Hello! magazine about the usage of this tent, Beckham joyfully mentioned, “Throughout the weekends, my kids hustle out there, and we end up grilling together from early morning till midnight!”
