At one point, Lisa Bernett tipped the scales at over 280 pounds, largely due to her love for Doritos and unhealthy takeout meals. Now, this 44-year-old from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, has managed to lose more than half her weight, dropping to a healthy 140 pounds.
Here’s her incredible story. Bernett used to indulge in massive quantities of cheesy pasta and snacks, but nearly two years ago, she decided enough was enough. The transformation is awe-inspiring—she went from a size 24 down to size 8!
In a chat with SWNS, Bernett highlighted how she achieved this stunning change naturally, steering clear of trendy diets or weight-loss medications like Ozempic. “I wouldn’t depend on injections,” she stated. “They don’t teach you how to lose fat or make better food choices.”
Moreover, she insisted that while these medications could be helpful, relying solely on them is a risky gamble. “What happens when you stop? I didn’t want to go the surgery route either,” she added.
Making Necessary Changes
Bernett knew that avoiding quick fixes meant embracing significant lifestyle changes.
First things first—her diet was a disaster. She admitted, “I used to skip breakfast entirely. Lunch would be heaps of cheese pasta or bagels topped with cheese. For snacks, a whole bag of crisps paired with dip could easily cover my entire daily food allowance.”
Often, she turned to takeout, cooking large portions, and had a habit of clearing her plate. But now? She counts her calories with a helpful app and snacks on items like baked potatoes with grilled chicken and salads to meet her desired protein and calorie goals.
Get Moving!
Before her impressive weight loss journey, Bernett’s life was pretty sedentary.
“I hardly moved,” she confessed, recalling how she would drop the kids off at school, work, come home, and sit around. “Getting up stairs or a walk left me breathless.” She had consistent knee pains but thankfully avoided ongoing health complications, though she did suffer from bronchial infections.
Now, she’s upped her activity level tremendously, starting with 10,000 steps a day, now pushing it to an inspiring 20,000 steps. She also enjoys hitting the gym, boxing, and practicing Muay Thai.
Words of Wisdom
For those thinking about changing their fitness and diet, Bernett shares this key piece of advice: “Take accountability.”
“Nobody’s perfect. Even when it’s tough and you’re tempted to splurge on junk, allow yourself a little, but be mindful and get back on track the next day,” she emphasizes.
