Good morning, everyone!
I’ve got a significant update from the legal world. A federal judge recently threw out the criminal charges against James Comey, the former director of the FBI, and Letitia James, New York’s attorney general. The judge, Cameron McGowan Currie, determined that the prosecutor involved didn’t have the legal standing to pursue the case.
Lindsey Halligan, who was appointed the interim US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia by Trump last September, was found to have acted without proper authority in charging Comey and James. Judge Currie highlighted in her ruling that Ms. Halligan’s installation was invalid, and that she had illegitimately served in that capacity since September 22, 2025.
This ruling is a substantial victory for both Comey and James. Comey had faced allegations of lying to Congress dating back five years, while James was up against charges related to mortgage fraud. They both have maintained their innocence, alleging that these prosecutions were politically motivated maneuvers aimed at retribution from the Trump administration for their stances against the former president.
International Tensions Rise as Russia Strikes Kyiv
In other news, Russia has launched dangerous strikes on Kyiv, targeting its energy infrastructure during the night and resulting in six fatalities and 14 injuries. This assault coincides with new peace talks led by the US in Abu Dhabi.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the missile attack involved 22 missiles and 464 drones, primarily directed at Kyiv and its surroundings. He stated, “All partners must remember that lives need to be saved every single day. Weapons and air defense systems are crucial, as well as ongoing sanctions against the aggressor.”
Venezuela Rebuts US ‘Narco-Terrorism’ Claims
Meanwhile, Venezuela is pushing back against US allegations related to ‘narco-terrorism’. Their government described these claims as absurd attempts to rationalize regime change amid rising tensions.
Recently, the Trump administration officially classified a Venezuelan group, known as the Cartel de los Soles,” as a terrorist organization, despite skepticism about the group’s actual existence. Observers warn that these developments could set the stage for potential US military actions in Venezuela.
