Figueroa was arrested in mid-December after a New Rochelle man and his mother told police that he had entered their Clinton Avenue home posing as a detective and questioning the man about a recent arrest.

A Mount Vernon firefighter who is the son of a controversial contractor in the city was arrested in New Rochelle early Sunday and accused of impersonating a police officer. Police said Figueroa left the house after the mother threatened to call police to check if he was really a detective. He was taken into custody about two hours later and released on $750 bail.

A felony hearing requested by Mattesi was repeatedly postponed while witnesses refused to come forward. After the last scheduled hearing last month, a New Rochelle judge dismissed the impersonation charge on April 15 and sealed the case.

Mattesi had said from the day after Figueroa’s arrest that the charges would not hold up as the complainants were unreliable.

Figueroa had been suspended without pay for more than six weeks before returning to modified duty. He was reinstated to full duty following the dismissal of the case.

Figueroa’s father is a contractor who has courted controversy in recent years for his role in a pair of demolition projects in Mount Vernon, one a fire-damaged home, the other the tennis bubble at the Memorial Field courts.

In both cases, his company, Figueroa & Sons, was hired by the administration of Mayor Richard Thomas for purportedly emergency work that had not been authorized by the City Council or the city’s Board of Estimate & Contract. Figueroa got paid for the house demolition in 2016 after suing the city. He is currently suing the city for $35,000 for the bubble demolition.

Michael Figueroa Sr. has also been waiting nearly five years to be sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty in connection with a multi-million dollar burglary ring that operated on Long Island.
