  Woman shot after dog jumps on loaded gun inside truck, Enid police say A woman was shot in the leg after a dog jumped on a gun inside a pickup truck in Enid, police officials said. According to Enid police, officers responded Thursday afternoon to a report that a dog had shot a woman inside a truck in the area of North 10th Street and East Hemlock Avenue. Officers arrived and spoke to the driver, who said they had stopped in the road due to a passing train. He said his dog had been in the back seat and jumped on the center console, causing his pistol to fire a round into his passenger’s thigh.The driver said he placed his belt around the woman’s leg to try to stop the bleeding.

HAMDEN — Police offered safety tips for residents Tuesday after an 84-year-old woman was bitten by a raccoon on Vantage Road.

Capt. Ronald Smith said in a release that officers responded to a home on Vantage Road for a report of animal nuisance at approximately 4 p.m. Monday.

“The daughter of the 84 year-old resident contacted police and reported that her mother had been bitten by a raccoon. According to the victim, the raccoon ‘attacked’ her and bit her on the hand, while gardening,” said Smith. “Her daughter intervened and prevented further injuries.”

The woman was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, Smith said.

He said Hamden police and animal control officers searched the area for the raccoon, but did not find it.

Smith advised residents not to feed raccoons and make sure that pet food is kept inside, as well as ensure that garbage and compost is out of their reach.

A woman was bitten by a raccoon in New Haven on Aug. 22, as well.


Police: Man attacked, shouted racial insults at woman outside church .
Police in Brookline are looking for a man who screamed racial insults at a woman as he attacked outside a church. Brookline police said at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of an assault that just occurred in the area of 1773 Beacon St. A woman told officers she had parked her car on Dean Road near Beacon Street and as she walked toward a church, she was shoved from behind and fell to the ground. The victim said the man then attempted to remove her backpack while shouting racial insults and threatening further violence, police said. The victim said she began to fight back, kicking and screaming and her attacker fled, police said.
