Since the announcement of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis back in February 2024, fans and followers have eagerly awaited news about his condition. This evening, the King opened up in a video message, sharing what he referred to as ‘good news’—his treatment schedule will be lighter come New Year!
In his heartfelt message aired at 8 p.m. during Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer segment, the King reflected on how overwhelming a diagnosis can be. He mentioned, “I can relate, knowing how cancer can feel like an enormous weight on your shoulders. Yet, I’ve also realized that catching it early can significantly change the outcome, giving doctors more time to work their magic and offering patients the hope they so desperately need.”
As he continued, King Charles became even more personal, revealing, “I’m thrilled to share that early diagnosis and following my doctors’ advice have allowed me to reduce the intensity of my cancer treatment in the coming year. This achievement feels like a light at the end of the tunnel, not just for me but as a reminder of how far cancer care has come—giving encouragement to at least half the population that may face such a challenge.”
The overarching theme of the King’s message underscored the need for early detection. He spotlighted a new online cancer screening tool created by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 to aid the Stand Up To Cancer initiative, emphasizing its value.
“The stats can’t be ignored,” he remarked. “For instance, when bowel cancer is detected early, about 90% of those diagnosed survive for more than five years. However, if discovered later, that rate drops to just 10%. Early diagnosis is absolutely life-saving. I’ve heard firsthand how crucial it is during my visits to cancer centers across the country. Really, it’s made a world of difference for me, allowing me to maintain an active lifestyle even throughout my treatment.”
This memorable message was filmed in late November in the comfortable setting of Clarence House’s Morning Room. A representative from Buckingham Palace announced today that the King has been doing remarkably well with his treatment and indicated that his medical team has shifted to a precautionary approach moving forward. “His progress will be closely observed to ensure his continued health,” the spokesperson elaborated. However, they clarified that the King will remain in treatment for cancer.
Though the Palace has kept details about the King’s specific cancer private, it’s known that he is not dealing with prostate cancer, as his condition was identified during treatment for a benign prostate enlargement. There are no additional updates about his type of cancer at this time. A spokesperson noted, “While His Majesty wishes to support everyone dealing with cancer, he chooses not to discuss his specific illness but to speak broadly to those affected by all types of cancer.”
The Stand Up to Cancer UK campaign has been actively fundraising since 2012, raising over £113 million to support cancer research and awareness.
