Politics Screenwriter Reveals Lesley Stahl 'Berated' Him on Plane, But All Is Forgiven Since She Earned Trump's Ire
The Lincoln Project's campaign against Trump
A group of longtime Republican strategists who have worked with the likes of John McCain and George W. Bush have launched a scorching campaign against the president. Lesley Stahl reports. They call themselves the Lincoln Project. Named for the "Party of Lincoln," which they allege has gone so dangerously astray under President Donald Trump that they've decided to take the strategic and ad-making firepower they've trained for years on Democrats and turn it against their own. And the president's bout with COVID-19 is not slowing them down.
Screenwriter Michael H. Weber took to Twitter to describe an unpleasant experience he endured at the hands of 60 Minutes journalist Lesley Stahl, but added that "[I]f she caused Trump to have a meltdown then all is forgiven."
Weber's tweet began with describing how the interaction, which took place on an airplane, occurred: "Years ago Lesley Stahl *berated* me on a plane b/c she thought I took her overhead compartment. (I did not.) Then she demanded a flight attendant recheck my ticket, adamant that I didn't belong in her section. (I did.)"
Trump Calls Out CBS' Lesley Stahl for 'Not Wearing A Mask at White House'
In the video posted by President Donald Trump, "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl can be seen not wearing a mask in the presence of other masked individuals in the room.In the video, two other individuals can be seen wearing face masks while Stahl is mask-free. Several members of the White House staff, including Trump, have tested positive for COVID-19 recently. Some observers have pointed to a September event at the White House for Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett as potentially being the source of the virus's spread throughout Trump's staffers. Trump has often been observed in public without wearing a face mask.
He then concluded the tweet with the forgiveness remark.

Weber is of course referring to the recent kerfuffle Donald Trump had with Stahl following the recording of a CBS News' 60 Minutes interview. The president disagreed with the line of questioning from the veteran television journalist and allegedly cut the interview short and walked out of the room.
On Tuesday, Trump characterized the interview as "biased" and threatened to release the interview himself before its scheduled air date this Sunday.
Meadows criticizes veteran journalist Lesley Stahl as an 'opinion journalist'
White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on Wednesday criticized veteran CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl as an "opinion journalist" and denied that President Trump "walked out" of his taped interview for "60 Minutes" on Tuesday.Meadows, speaking on Fox Business, also indicated as Trump did on Tuesday that the White House may release video of the interview before it airs on "60 Minutes" Sunday, despite the network saying that the White House agreed that they would tape the interview "for archival purposes only." "He didn't walk out. The characterization of that - he spent over 45 minutes with Lesley Stahl.
The president tweeted yesterday about the incident: "I am pleased to inform you that, for the sake of accuracy in reporting, I am considering posting my interview with Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes, PRIOR TO AIRTIME! This will be done so that everybody can get a glimpse of what a FAKE and BIASED interview is all about..Everyone should compare this terrible Electoral Intrusion with the recent interviews of Sleepy Joe Biden!"

Trump was also supposed to return that day with Mike Pence to record more for the 60 Minutes segment but failed to do so. According to The Washington Post, he was upset with Stahl's questions about his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, his attacks on Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, and his campaign's claims about Hunter Biden, among other things.
Stahl whines, ‘I’m upset,’ says Trump, Pence ‘insulted 60 Minutes’
When it was over, 60 Minutes reporter Leslie Stahl, who has been bragging about snagging President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for re-election interviews, was "upset."Impressed with her questions, including asking Pence repeatedly if he was “teased” after a fly landed on his head during the vice presidential debate, she determined that she didn’t like the answers she heard.
Trump later continued his attack on Stahl by tweeting she was not wearing a mask at the White House, though CBS News said Stahl wore a mask when she arrived and greeted the president, only removing it once they were socially distanced. CBS News also claimed a clip Trump shared that shows Stahl without a mask occurred after the interview when she was speaking with her producers, all of whom had tested negative for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller and his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, both disputed reports that the interview was cut short by the president.
Whatever the case, Weber seemed content on Twitter that Stahl was able to at least ruin Trump's afternoon.
Along with his writing partner Scott Neustadter, Weber has written the screenplays for the films (500) Days of Summer (2009), and The Pink Panther 2 (2009), and The Fault in Our Stars (2014). For writing The Disaster Artist (2017), the duo was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay
'60 Minutes' Airs Interview with Trump, Showing Contrasts with Version President Leaked .
The president posted what he claimed was unedited footage of the interview with Lesly Stahl last week. Last night, CBS News told another story. The video Trump posted on his official Facebook page was taken from what he called "unedited" footage recorded by the White House for archival purposes. The nearly 38 minute video began with Stahl asking the president if he was ready for some "tough questions," to which he responded that he expected her to "just be fair." The conversation went downhill from there, with Trump becoming increasingly uncomfortable during the line of questioning.
