LeBron James says Lakers will run offense through Anthony Davis
The Los Angeles Lakers will have the flexibility to run their offense a number of different ways this season now that Anthony Davis is in the fold, but LeBron James says the plan is for the ball to go through the big man. While speaking with the media on Friday, LeBron said there is “no sense” in having Davis if the Lakers aren’t going to facilitate their offense through the six-time All-Star.
SHANGHAI (AP) — Brooklyn guard Kyrie Irving left the team's preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers about one minute after tip-off after taking a hit to the face.
Irving was attempting to play through a facial fracture, an injury that occurred in a pickup game last month. He was wearing a clear mask in an effort to protect his face, but appeared to bump into Lakers guard Rajon Rondo while playing defense just 1:06 into the contest.
Bill Plaschke: LeBron James no longer acting like a stranger to the Lakers and their fans
The man who once seemed blithely detached now sounds deeply engaged. "I'm very motivated, but I'm right now not in the talking-about-it mode, " James said with a steely stare. "I've been very quiet this summer for a reason. My mother always told me, don't talk about it, be about, it, so that's where I'm at." The man who once scoffed at a question about proving himself to Lakers fans answered a similar query with a pledge."I think as a team and myself, we need to get the Lakers back to where they're accustomed to over the years, so I'm excited about that, " he said.
Irving's face made contact with Rondo's upper arm. The Nets guard immediately winced in pain, took the mask off and motioned to the bench that he needed a substitute.
It was not immediately clear if Irving would return to the game.
