Sport LeBron James on opening night in the NBA: ‘For me, it’s like the first day of school’

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will begin the NBA season on Tuesday night against Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers. According to StubHub, the battle between the two L.A. squads is the hottest ticket in the NBA this season and there's plenty of reason to expect some serious fireworks. But it's not just fans and analysts who are counting down the minutes to tip-off.

Even while entering his 17th season as a professional, opening night in the NBA still feels like the first day of school for LeBron. The King spent time talking to the media about Tuesday's matchup and he compared his excitement level to when he was laying out his clothes the night before his first day back to school as a kid. "Opening night is great," LeBron said. "For me, it's like the first day of school. The first day of school, going back to school. Laying your clothes out the night before. Just that excitement of getting the things back going.

"I love to play the game. Obviously, I had the longest layoff of my career last season. So, to be where I'm at physically, mentally, no matter who we opened up against. For TV, for you guys, for everybody, Tuesday is great day."

The Lakers will enter the matchup with the Clippers favored by 1.5 points according to Las Vegas insiders. Rajon Rondo is considered questionable for the Lakers in the season-opener while Alex Caruso is now listed as probable. Quinn Cook, meanwhile, is available but could be on a minutes restriction and Kyle Kuzma will not play.

As far as the starting lineup, head coach Frank Vogel is currently keeping his options open in terms of who will ultimately surround LeBron and Anthony Davis. The most likely candidates appear to include JaVale McGee, Avery Bradley and Danny Green but we won't know for sure until that first bell rings and school is officially back in session.
