The Philadelphia 76ers open their 2021-2022 season on Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans. Point guard Ben Simmons still hasn't been traded, but he won't suit up with his teammates in New Orleans.

According to multiple reports, Simmons has been suspended for one game.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski provided additional details on the suspension:

It was only Monday when Sixers head coach Doc Rivers told reporters that he was taking a "wait and see and watch" approach as far as Simmons' status for the game against the Pelicans, but apparently, the three-time All-Star's behavior this week hasn't been good enough for Rivers and company.

Multiple videos surfaced from Monday's team practice, Simmons' second with the 76ers since he ended his holdout last week. Video from NBC Sports Philadelphia showed Simmons participating in drills with his teammates. He did so while wearing warmup pants and what appears to be a cellphone in his pocket. Maybe he forgot his Fitbit and just wanted to keep track of his steps. A video from the end of practice is even more telling. WPVI shared video of a post-session team huddle. Players, coaches and staff joined hands in the middle to break practice. That is, except for Simmons.

The Sixers have their home-opener against the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. At this point, it appears to be a long shot that either Simmons or Kyrie Irving will play in that game.

Report: Sixers frustrated with Ben Simmons' refusal to see team doctors about mental health .
The Ben Simmons standoff keeps finding new ways to get uglier. Two weeks after the Philadelphia 76ers point guard said he was mentally unready to play again, ESPN reports the team has grown increasingly frustrated with Simmons' refusal to accept any help on that front. Simmons has reportedly worked with the Sixers' doctors to treat a back ailment, another reason provided for his absence from the court, but he has been unwilling to meet with team doctors to discuss his mental readiness. Instead of working with the team's staff, Simmons has reportedly been working with mental health professionals through the National Basketball Players Association since the summer.
