Weston McKennie to Tottenham, Serie A trio to Newcastle in transfer news

Weston McKennie to Tottenham, Serie A trio to Newcastle in transfer news The Premier League rumor mill picked up some fresh ingredients from Italy for Thursday, ingredients imported from USMNT, Netherlands, Albania, and Croatia. Let’s dig into them. A feast, if you will. De Vrij to Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham Stefan de Vrij is the big name of three Serie A players ticketed for Newcastle United as the club’s new ownership attempts to give Eddie Howe improved options at center back and center mid.

Manchester United needs to sell a few key players to raise transfer funds. That gives Tottenham a golden opportunity to reel in Anthony Martial.

Manchester United fans are excited about their club's decision to bring in both Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane on big deals this summer. That does leave the higher-ups at Old Trafford in need of offloading several big-name players to balance the books. That could allow Tottenham to swoop in and steal Anthony Martial on a cut-rate deal.

Spurs have been linked to the French attacker off and on for the majority of his tenure at United. Tottenham's recent acquisition of Bryan Gil might cause some fans to believe they aren't in need of another attacker ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. The truth is that Gil is a prospect for the future while Martial is a player ready to make an immediate impact for Nuno Espirito Santo.

The question is whether or not United would actually sanction a sale of Martial to a Premier League rival. The financial pressure facing the club currently might make them amenable to listen to a swift inquiry from Spurs.

How would Anthony Martial fit at Tottenham?

Martial is at his best when he's permitted to play on the wing with limited defensive responsibilities. Tottenham already have one player that fits that profile in the form of South Korean ace Heung-Min Son, but Spurs do need an attacker to balance the other side of the formation.

Martial is a perfect option to really force Premier League defenders to pay close attention to both sides of the pitch. He isn't a classic wide man. Instead, he likes to cut inside and work to get his shot off whenever he's given a modicum of space. Tottenham could benefit massively from Martial's ability to lighten the goal-scoring load on Harry Kane.

The fact that Martial isn't seen as a key figure by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjkaer means that Tottenham might be able to sign the Frenchman without paying a huge premium. Any transfer fee under £30 million for such a talented, established attacking player would qualify as a massive bargain for Spurs.

There's no concrete link connecting Tottenham with Martial at the moment, but with Fabio Paratici at the helm of Spurs' transfer affairs, the idea of a quick move can't be ruled out. Martial is a name for Tottenham supporters to watch closely in the coming days.
