In a horrifying event yesterday morning, a shooting rocked a church service in Grand Blanc, Michigan, leaving at least two people dead and eight injured, according to police reports.
This unsettling incident took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located on McCandlish Road around 10:25 a.m. Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye shared that the shooter, a 40-year-old man from nearby Burton, crashed his vehicle through the church’s front doors. He then exited his car and unleashed a hail of gunfire using an assault rifle directed at the congregation.
Out of ten individuals who sustained gunshot wounds, tragically, two were confirmed dead at the hospital. Authorities indicated that several of the injured are in critical condition.
Furthermore, investigators reported that the suspect also set fire to the church during the attack. While the flames have been brought under control, officials believe there may be more victims yet to be discovered.
According to police, the shooter died following an engagement with responding officers. Authorities have a press conference scheduled for 5 p.m. to provide further updates on the situation.

Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson remarked in a video update that the situation is still ongoing and “there’s a lot happening that we can’t disclose yet.” He reassured the public that there is currently no ongoing threat.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints expressed deep gratitude for the swift response of law enforcement and an outpouring of support from around the world. They commented, “In these times of darkness, we draw strength and comfort from our faith in Jesus Christ. Places of worship are supposed to be safe havens for peace and connection, and we earnestly pray for healing for everyone affected.”

Governor Gretchen Whitmer shared her condolences on social media, writing, “My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community. Violence in any form, especially in places of worship, is intolerable. I’m thankful for the first responders who acted promptly during this crisis. Our thoughts remain with the victims and their loved ones.”
In response to the tragedy, over 100 FBI agents are assisting local authorities. Director Kash Patel commented on social media, stating, “Attacks in places of worship are cowardly acts. Our hearts are with the victims and families who are enduring this tragedy.”
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized her sorrow on the incident, calling such violence in sacred spaces heart-wrenching.
Former President Trump shared his thoughts, stating he has been informed about the shooting. He conveyed his concern, labeling it as another targeted incident against Christians and urged everyone to pray for those affected.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated her office is coordinating with various agencies, assuring the community that places of worship must remain protected.
New York’s police department announced additional security measures at local religious sites in light of the shooting. Los Angeles also heightened patrols near places of worship as a precaution.
Beginning Monday and throughout the week, the Grand Blanc Township Police Department will provide counseling services at their facility for those who may need support.
