In a surprising turn of events, the Parisian police have apprehended two suspects linked to the shocking jewel heist at the Louvre Museum, where France’s crown jewels were stolen.

One of the individuals was caught on Saturday evening just as he was about to flee the country from Charles de Gaulle Airport, according to Paris Prosecutor Laure Beccuau.

She noted that investigators are still working diligently to recover the stolen jewels and track down all those involved in the crime. Beccuau mentioned, “It’s too early to share all the details, but more information will follow once the police custody period concludes.”

The theft occurred in broad daylight last Sunday when four robbers captured on surveillance cameras executed their plan with precision. They arrived at the museum in a furniture-lift truck, cut a hole in the window of the Galerie d’Apollon, intimidated the guards, and smashed through two display cases before speeding away on scooters, evading police response.

These valuable crown jewels are estimated to be worth around 88 million euros (approximately $102 million), not to mention their immense historical importance to the people of France.

Beccuau, leading the investigation, expressed her frustration over leaks to the media stating that premature sharing of this sensitive information could impede progress in the investigation.

Amid the ongoing search, investigators are worried that the thieves might attempt to melt down the stolen jewels for quick profit. Beccuau emphasized in an RTL interview, “The perpetrators will not make 88 million euros if they destructively break down these jewels. We can only hope they reconsider their actions and refrain from causing irreversible damage to these treasures.”
