This week, American President Donald Trump has arrived in the UK for an unprecedented state visit. In the middle of all the festivities surrounding his second visit, a grand state banquet is taking place tonight at Windsor Castle. Many members of the royal family are present, though some, like the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, are missing as they are on their way to Japan. Of course, Queen Camilla is part of the event, welcoming Trump and the First Lady alongside her husband, King Charles.
Earlier in the day, Camilla greeted the American delegation dressed in a stunning cobalt blue outfit and a matching hat, finished off with a sapphire brooch that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. For tonight’s banquet, she continued with the blue theme, donning a floor-length gown by Fiona Clare and a sapphire tiara that carries both personal and royal value.
This tiara holds a special place in history, having been commissioned in 1963 by Queen Elizabeth to go with a sapphire necklace she received from her father, King George VI, at her wedding. The necklace itself was crafted from an antique sapphire and diamond piece previously owned by Princess Louise of Belgium. Interestingly, Camilla first wore this tiara at her debut state banquet as queen consort in 2022, which honored President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.
This evening’s sapphire selection marks a change from the Diamond Boucheron tiara, also known as the Greville tiara, which Camilla chose for Trump’s first state banquet in 2019.
